Adventure in Stowe
Explore Stowe in every season. In winter, Stowe’s long tradition of skiing shines, along with a run on “Jake’s Ride,” named for late snowboarding pioneer Jake Burton Carpenter. Nordic skiing is exceptional here, with over 200 km of trails anchored by three Nordic centers or the free Recreation Path.
Mud season marks the arrival of spring in Stowe, bringing maple sugaring, the opening of fishing season and the quiet beauty of the emerging green landscapes.
Summer offers hiking and biking, including over 50 miles of singletrack mountain bike trails and the 5.3-mile Recreation Path. Water activities include canoeing, kayaking, tubing, and swimming in classic Vermont swimming holes.
In fall, Stowe is transformed by spectacular foliage, with brilliant colors creating one of New England’s most iconic seasonal experiences.
Recreation Path
The 5.3-mile internationally recognized Recreation Path is just a short walk from the Butler House front door. Explore it on foot, by bike (we have guest bikes available), snowshoe, or cross-country skis in winter. In the warmer months, cool off with a refreshing dip in the Little River.
The Quiet Path, accessible from the Recreation Path, offers a scenic and peaceful walking experience. It’s a favorite for walkers, joggers, dog owners, and anyone seeking a gentle, restorative stroll in nature.
Golf
Talk with Paul about playing at the stunning Country Club of Vermont in nearby Waterbury Center. Set among the beautiful vistas of the Green Mountains, the course offers a front nine reminiscent of Irish links and a back nine that winds through wooded hills. Consistently ranked among the top courses in the state by Golf Digest, it’s a true Vermont standout.
Ryder Brook Golf Club in Morrisville features open fairways, rolling greens, and scenic mountain views in a relaxed 9-hole setting between Mt. Mansfield and the Worcester Range.
A short, scenic drive away,Copley Country Club in Morrisville is a welcoming 9-hole course that’s fun and approachable for all skill levels, with classic Vermont charm and a strong local feel.
For a modern twist, The Green Room in Stowe features a state-of-the-art Full Swing golf simulator. Located next to the Stowe Cinema with a full bar, it’s a perfect destination for an evening indoors or a rainy day round.
Hiking
Stowe offers hiking for every level, from gentle forest walks to challenging alpine climbs, with scenery that changes dramatically through the seasons and elevation. It also pairs easily with the area’s excellent dining, breweries, and scenic drives, making it simple to turn a hike into a full day of exploring.
Take a short drive to the Stowe Pinnacle Trail, where a steady uphill climb leads to one of the most rewarding vistas in the area.
The trailhead for Sunset Rock is just a short walk from the Butler House. Ideal for a late-afternoon outing, this quick forested hike leads to a sunset-facing ledge (hence the name) with beautiful views over Stowe Village and toward Mount Mansfield.
For an easy, scenic hike, visit Bingham Falls with its dramatic rock formations or Moss Glen Falls, a taller, more graceful waterfall set in a lush forested setting.
