Butler House Circa 1830

About the Innkeepers

In 2009 Paul Biron purchased what was then known as The Swiss Pot Building from longtime owner Carol Goode. The sale was secured with a handshake while Paul and Carol were shopping at Shaw's General Store. Paul's dream of revitalizing the end of Main Street and returning the building to its former glory became a reality. Together with his wife, Laura and their children, Zoe and Max, the Butler House was renovated according to National Historic Trust guidelines.

Paul and Laura continue to run the Butler House Stowe Inn. Their daughter Zoe is a New England Culinary Institute trained chef. Max has moved on to California but you can catch him playing Bocci, snowboarding or skateboarding during one of his visits home.

The Biron family welcomes you to Butler House Stowe: Let us be your home away from home!

"In 1826, the Honorable Orion W. Butler commenced practice in Stowe…he soon demonstrated one thing - that at least one good lawyer, could not only live by his practice in the town, but could speedily accumulate a handsome property".

- A History of Stowe published by The Stowe Historical Society

The History of Butler House

The "handsome property" on 128 Main Street is believed to have been constructed in 1830 by itinerate bricklayers who also built 2 other homes on Main Street; ask Paul or Laura and they will be happy to point them out.  After being a private home for many years, the property became home to a guest house and tavern, post office, apartments, a jewelry store, the infamous Red Door Bar, and for over 25 years the Swiss Pot Restaurant.
